Apart from this, the airport has a cargo terminal for handling the cargo operations and there is a separate Hajj terminal that caters to the rush at a time of Hajj.

The new Bengaluru International Airport commenced its operations on May 23, 2008. It has replaced

the HAL Bangalore International Airport. It is located at Devanahalli which is almost 50 km away from the central business district of Bengaluru. As per the World Airport Traffic 2007 report, this airport was ranked as the fourth fastest growing international airport. It is spread over an area of 4050 acres. It was earlier designed to manage only 3.5 million passengers every year. Later on, it was redesigned for handling about 12 million passengers every year.

Also, there is notable improvement in the supporting infrastructure. At present, it has only one runway that can house all types of aircrafts, such as the Airbus A380. It is considered to be the fourth-busiest airport in India and it is ranked behind Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai.
